Group Gómez-Sanz

Antimicrobial Resistance and Phage Biology under the One Health

The group led by Prof. Elena Gómez-Sanz investigates the role of bacteriophages in the evolution and spread of antimicrobial resistance and virulence in Gram-positive bacteria, especially staphylococci. Using a combination of molecular microbiology, comparative genomics, and phage biology, her team explores the mechanisms of horizontal gene transfer, host range dynamics, and the ecological impact of phage–bacteria interactions across clinical, animal and environmental settings. The research also aims to develop phage-based tools and applications for tackling antimicrobial resistance.
